World Steel Association 2018 steelChallenge Winners Announced

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The World Steel Association (worldsteel) announced world champions of steelChallenge-13 industry competition.

The winner of the student category is Shao-Wei LOU from National Chung Hsing University, Taiwan, China. Yongtae KIM from POSCO, South Korea won the champion award in the industry category. The winners were awarded certificate, cash prize and the steelChallenge trophy. Scott Chubbs, Director, steeluniversity congratulated the proud winners and stated that they are great assets to the industry.

The world championship took place in Madrid, Spain on 16th April, 2019, in which 5 regional winners from each of the student and industry categories competed. The task was to produce a specific engineering steel grade in the most cost-effective manner by making use of steeluniversity’s Basic Oxygen Steelmaking and Secondary Steelmaking simulators.

The other four finalists from Student category were Vid Vengust, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia; Dylan Da Silva Santos, Universidade Federal do Ceará, Brazil; Yu-En Chang, National Chung Hsing University, Taiwan, China and Wei Zhang, Chongqing University of Science & Technology, China.

The other four regional champions who participated in the title championship from Industry category were Tom Neuvel, Tata Steel Europe, Netherlands; Marcelo Ricardo de Souza Angelotto, Companhia Siderúrgica do Pecem, Brazil; Sanfeng Jin and Yijie Han of HBIS Group Co., Ltd, China.
