SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The report published by the World Gold Council (WGC) noted that gold ETF outflows from North American funds outweighed inflows from Asian funds and to a lesser extent, European funds.
The North American funds recorded an outflow of 199.5t during the previous year. The SPDR Gold Shares and iShares Gold Trust in the U.S. drove global outflows in 2021. Also, Wisdom Tree Physical Swiss Gold Fund in the UK witnessed outflows during the year. These were partially offset by inflows into Xtrackers IE Physical Gold and Xetra Gold in Germany, WGC report noted.

The SPDR Gold Shares lost 195t, while iShares Gold Trust witnessed outflows of 32.9t. The fund holdings in European region had marginal inflows of 0.7t. The low-cost Xtrackers IE Physical Gold had recorded inflows of 33.6t, while Xetra Gold added 20.7t. On the contrary, WisdomTree Physical Gold witnessed outflows of 25.2t during the entire year 2021.
The funds listed in Asia reported net inflows of 25.4t. The Chinese ETFs Bosera Gold Exchange posted inflows of 5.4t, while Huaan Yifu Gold added 5.9t during the year. Meantime, the inflows from Other regions totalled 0.1t.
The physically backed gold ETFs reported 173t of global outflows in 2021, WGC report said.
