World Copper Mine Output Surged in First Half This Year

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The International Copper Study Group (ICSG) has released its September 2020 Copper Bulletin, which provides preliminary data for the month of June this year.

In accordance with the data provided by ICSG, the world copper mine production increased marginally by nearly 4.9% in the initial half-yearly period of 2020. The concentrate production has surged higher by 6.4%, whereas the SX-EW output posted marginal decline by 1.5%.

Chile-the world’s largest copper mine producing country saw its output decline by 1.2%. The 2.5% growth in concentrate production was more than offset by 11% decline in SX-EW output. The output in Peru has increased by 14% during the month. Despite this recovery, the half-yearly production by the country stood lower by 9% from H1 2020. The Indonesian output has surged higher significantly by 69%. The U.S. production remained essentially unchanged.

The world refined copper production increased marginally by around 3.2% in the first six months of 2021. The primary production soared by 3.5%, while the secondary production too edged higher by 1.7%.

The ICSG report indicates that the world apparent refined copper usage increased by 3.8% in H1 2021.
