Wisconsin Recycling Grants Totaled $20 Million in 2017

SEATTLE (Waste Advantage): Wisconsin grants supporting waste recycling programs totaled $20 million in 2017, according to the state Dept. of Natural Resources.

A Buffalo County recycling program serving 10,836 residents received a grant of $98,814.

Other grant-approved local recycling programs in Buffalo County included Waumandee, $2,452, Alma, $4,141, and Fountain City, $4,640.

A Pepin County recycling program received a grant of $67,368, and Southern Trempealeau County Solid Waste Commission received a grant for $43,125.

Other local recycling project grants in Trempealeau County included Osseo, $9,886, Independence, $3,925, Blair, $2,516, Whitehall, $6,620; Strum, $7,022, Pigeon Falls, $507, Ettrick, $3,027, Eleva-Albion, $4,734, and rural town grants to Arcadia, Burnside, Chimney Rock, Ettrick, Hale and Pigeon.

The DNR said 1,029 grants were issued statewide to counties and municipalities operating as “responsible recycling units” meeting grant requirements.

Total grants amounted to $19 million in 2016, $20 million in 2015, and $20 million in 2014.

The most recent recycling market sales report issued by the DNR was in 2013 when 762,008 tons of recycled waste was processed at a value of $69.1 million.


A large majority of recycled waste tonnage was paper and cardboard, the DNR reported.
