Weyerhaeuser, American Forests Join Forces on Innovative Forestry Initiative

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Weyerhaeuser Company announced that it has partnered with non-profit organisation American Forests on an innovative initiative aimed at expanding the latter’s Tree Equity program into smaller, more rural communities. The collaboration will also offer career-focussed environmental education to hundreds of youth.

As a first step, 20 high school students Ruston High School will come forward to plant dozens of trees in a community park alongside local Weyerhaeuser volunteers in Ruston, La. These students are already engaged with a new curriculum designed with the support of Weyerhaeuser and Project Learning Tree. The company employee volunteers will join hands with students to implement the projects in their communities.

Through the partnership, Weyerhaeuser and American Forests hopes to inspire passion for the environment among young people and encourage them to pursue careers in urban and community forestry.

Anne Leyva, manager of people development and giving programs for Weyerhaeuser noted that the company is thrilled to partner on the Tree Equity project and provide additional support for its operating communities. The efforts will contribute significantly towards creation of climate and economic resilience in smaller communities, Leyva added.
