WestRock Announces New Sustainability Partnership with Atlanta Braves

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): WestRock Company has partnered with The Atlanta Braves- the Major League Baseball franchise to enhance sustainability efforts throughout SunTrust Park. The partnership will promote the team’s environmental initiatives. It aims to boost the percentage of recycled items by reducing contamination in the recycling stream.

Derek Schiller, President and CEO, The Atlanta Braves noted that the franchise is excited to partner with WestRock to take the environmental initiatives at SunTrust Park to new heights. The partnership will divert waste to recycling at high level, thereby providing big boost to efforts in creating a sustainable ballpark. It will lead to significant reduction of recycled materials ending up in landfills, Schiller added.

Steve Voorhees, CEO, WestRock noted that the company is proud to contribute to sustainability efforts at the stadium by turning recyclable products into new, innovative products. Being part of the community, WestRock believes in investing in programs that make tomorrow better for everyone, he said.

The Atlanta Braves, in partnership with WestRock and Coca-Cola will place new navy blue recycling bins throughout the ballpark, which will collect recyclable items such as plastics, paper, metals and glass. The collected recyclables will be shifted to WestRock’s local material recovery facilities, where they will be sorted, processed and repurposed into new and useful products.
