Wayne Township Landfill in Pennsylvania Will Continue to Accept Glass Recycling

SEATTLE (Waste Advantage): The Wayne Township Landfill will continue accepting glass recycling. Since March of this year, the landfill has been conducting a glass collection program. Since the program started, over 30,000 pounds of glass has been brought in, according to Environmental Manager/County Recycling Coordinator, Michael Crist.

Crist recommended that the board vote to continue glass collection into the new year during Wednesday’s Solid Waste Authority Board meeting. In agreement, the board unanimously voted to continue the glass collection program. However, recyclable glass items will still need to be brought to the landfill in person. Crist also updated the board on changes to their recycling routes. They have decided to remove two routes in Beech Creek and Loganton. The changes were proposed due to growing expenses and exceeding man hours for haulers.

“As we do every year, we look at our recycling program top to bottom, see what we could do and change. This year we focused on consolidation of our collection routes. We removed the Beech Creek route and the Loganton route. We were putting a lot of miles on (it), a lot of man hours, with very little collected,” Crist explained.
