Meridian Waste Delivers the Spirit of Thanksgiving to Many

SEATTLE (Waste Advantage): Meridian Waste Missouri, LLC, a subsidiary of Meridian Waste, an integrated, non-hazardous solid waste services company, has kicked off Thanksgiving week with two community efforts. The company is giving thanks to residents in the greater Pike County area including the Gifting of the Turkeys to Eagle Ridge Landfill’s immediate neighbors. Also, the company’s annual Thanksgiving partnership with the North East Community Action Corporation (NECAC) Pike County continues with delivering Thanksgiving dinners to families in need.

The Thanksgiving dinners were first delivered on November 21 with Meridian Waste and Eagle Ridge Landfill continuing its year-old tradition of hand-delivering provisions to neighbors of the landfill in Bowling Green. Government and Community Affairs Manager Angela Krah and Office Manager Linda Leffeler delivered 16 turkeys to homes adjacent to the landfill as thanks for being their neighbors.

“We value our neighbors and want them to know how much we respect their sense of community as we continue to do our part to keep the environment clean and safe for years to come,” said Krah.  “The Meridian Waste team works diligently to operate the landfill and to have minimal impact on our neighbors along with maximum environmental safety,” she said.  “However, we realize that the industrial nature of what we do may intermittently impact our most immediate neighbors. The Gifting of the Turkeys is simply a means of saying thank you.”

Following the Gifting of the Turkeys on November 24, Meridian Waste donated 20 Thanksgiving dinners to disadvantaged families throughout the company’s Pike County collection service area and home to the company’s Eagle Ridge Landfill. To qualify as a candidate family, NECAC requires the guardians or parents in each household to complete a mandatory life-skills class and ensure there are educational and life enrichment aspects to the donation.  Therefore, recipients take home more than a nutritious meal, they can also improve their quality of life and financial future.

“We are thankful for our community and very proud to help our neighbors in need by donating Thanksgiving dinners to numerous families,” said Eagle Ridge General Manager Roger Smith. “This is the second year we have partnered with the NECAC to help provide a well-rounded Thanksgiving meal for NECAC-selected Pike County residents. We are pleased to continue the program in 2020 which has proven to be a tumultuous year.”
