Viridor Signs 5-Year Recycled PET Supply Deal with KP

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Viridor Resource Management has signed a five-year agreement with packaging producer Klöckner Pentaplast  (KP) towards supply of post-consumer recycled PET. Under the terms of the agreement, Viridor will supply 8,000 tonnes of recycled PET from its Avonmouth plastic recycling plant near Bristol. The partnership aims to contribute positively to circular future.

The new collaboration deal with Viridor is part of KP’s commitment to increase its use of recycled content in accordance with the Positive Plastics Pledge launched in September last year, which aims to make all of its packaging to be made from recyclable or sustainably sourced materials by 2028. The company had recently completed its first successful year of the initiative through organized collection, sorting and recycling of used plastics to create sustainable packaging solutions..

Adam Barnett, President of the Food Packaging division at KP said that the company is thrilled to announce extended agreement with Viridor, which has been a key partner for many years. Meantime, Simon Hicks, Viridor’s Managing Director of Recycling stated that the new partnership will ensure that UK plastics are given another life after their first use.

Upon reaching full production capacity, the Avonmouth plant will be capable to produce approximately 60,000 tonnes of recycled PET, HDPE and PP per year, with production likely to increase further from third year onwards.

Recently, Viridor had entered into a deal with Unilever on boosting the use of recycled plastic.
