U.S. Weekly Raw Steel Output Slumped

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The domestic raw steel production for the most recent week recorded a decline by 3% from the year-ago period.

The production statistics published by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) states that weekly raw steel output totalled 1.821 million net tons in the week ended October 12, 2019. This represents 3% decrease from the previous year. However, the production edged higher marginally from the prior week by 0.9%. The production had totalled 1.877 million net tons and 1.804 million net tons in the previous year and previous week respectively.

The adjusted year-to-date production was up by 2.9% at 76.078 million net tons. This compares with the production of 73.940 million net tons during the same period in 2018.

The Southern region topped in production with an output of 698,000 net tons, closely followed by Great Lakes with 685,000 net tons.
