SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The weekly domestic raw steel production data published by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) signalled significant surge in output during the week ended October 16, 2021. The weekly production climbed higher significantly by 21.5% over the previous year.
The raw steel output by the U.S. mills totalled 1.882 million net tons (NT) at a capability utilization rate of 85.3%. The production had totalled only 1.549 million NT at a capacity utilization rate of 70.1% during the same period a year before. Meantime, the production during the week recorded marginal increase by 1.3% when compared with the production of 1.858 million NT at a capability utilization rate of 84.2% during the prior week.
The adjusted year-to-date raw steel production totalled 75.149 million NT until the week ending October 16, 2021. The mills in the country reported capability utilization rate of 81.3% during this period. The production till date has increased by 20.3% from 62.480 million NT during the same period last year. The capability utilization rates too were up from 67.1% a year before.
The mills in the Southern region accounted for approximately 42% of the total weekly raw steel production by the country. The regional output totalled 788,000 NT. The production (in thousand net tons) by the other regions was as follows: North East-179, Midwest-195, Great Lakes-639 and Western-81.
