U.S. Steel Industry is The Cleanest in the World

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The recently released study by the CRU International, commissioned by the Climate Leadership Council (CLC), says that the American steel industry is the cleanest in the world. The study report highlights the major carbon advantages of the U.S. Steel Industry.

According to the report, the U.S. steel industry is 75% - 320% more carbon efficient than global producers. The U.S. steel manufacturing process emits less carbon dioxide when compared with major competitors.

The implementation of carbon fee and border adjustment would unlock a competitive advantage for the U.S. steel industry. This will lead to drop in steel imports by almost 50%. Also, this will reduce or even push out steel from the least carbon efficient markets, like China and Brazil, the report noted. Incidentally, the goods manufactured in the U.S. are 80% more carbon-efficient than the world average. However, almost three-fourth of U.S. imports come from less carbon efficient countries.

Kevin Dempsey, president and CEO of the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) welcomed the findings of the report. Further, he urged the U.S. government to promote the increased use of cleaner American steel.
