U.S. Steel Declares Top-Tier Benefits Package for Employees

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Pittsburgh-based United States Steel Corporation has announced new and enhanced benefits to its non-represented employees. The newly announced benefits will be implemented in full starting April this year.

Either parent will be granted up to eight weeks paid time off following the birth of a child. Birth mothers can avail of this new parental leave in addition to the existing short-term disability period of six to eight weeks. The new package also allows additional medical coverage for infertility treatments and medications. U.S. Steel will provide reimbursement of up to $4,000 of eligible expenses in relation to adoption of a child.

The newly announced Vacation purchase program allows non-represented employees to purchase a certain number of additional vacation days which can be used within the calendar year. The company will match employee contributions up to 50% of the applicable IRS limit. The domestic partner coverage has been extended to include eligible domestic partners and eligible children to receive coverage under the company’s health and welfare programs. Also, bereavement leave has now been extended for up to 15 days for immediate family, the company press release said.

Barry Melnkovic, Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer stated that the benefits reflect the company’s commitment to fostering a culture of caring at U.S. Steel.

It must be noted that U.S. Steel had announced an updated health benefits package to represented employees as part of the collective bargaining process.
