U.S. Raw Steel Output Slipped 1.4%

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The raw steel production tonnage report compiled by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) for the week ended November 16, 2019 suggests marginal decline in output, compared with the same period in the previous year. However, over the prior week, the production increased by a tad.

According to AISI weekly data, the U.S. raw steel production totalled 1.876 million net tons during the week ending on November 16, 2019. The capability utilization rate during the week was 81.1%. The production in the week ended November 16, 2018 was 1.903 million net tons at a capability utilization rate of 81.2%. The mill capability utilization rate reported marginal decline over the previous year. Also, the production was down by 1.4% year-on-year.

The production edged higher marginally by 0.8% from the prior week. AISI noted that the prior week production had totalled 1.862 million net tons. Also, the U.S. domestic mills reported lower capability utilization level of 80.5% during the week ended November 9, 2019.

Meantime, the year-to-date production until November 16, 2019 was up by 2.3% from the production of 83.387 million net tons during the corresponding period last year. The capability utilization rate too jumped higher from 78.1% to 80.3%.

U.S. Southern region led the production with an output of 763,000 net tons, followed by Great Lakes with 650,000 net tons.
