U.S. Raw Steel Output Expanded 4.5%

The adjusted year-to-date raw steel production by the U.S. totaled 46.870 million net tons through the week ended June 22, 2019.

U.S. Raw Steel Output Expanded 4.5%

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) released weekly domestic raw steel production report outlining the capability utilization rate as well as the district-wise production details during the previous week.

According to the report, the domestic raw steel production totaled 1.873 million net tons during the week ended June 22nd, 2019. The production represents a jump of 3.2% from the same week a year before. It must be noted that the raw steel production had totaled only 1.815 million net tons during the week ending June 22, 2018. The capability utilization rates too surged higher over the previous year, from 77.4% to 80.5%.

The production during the week ending June 22, 2019 was marginally lower when matched with the prior week production of 1.887 million net tons. The capability utilization reported week-on-week decline by 0.6%.

The adjusted year-to-date raw steel production by the U.S. totaled 46.870 million net tons through the week ended June 22, 2019 at a capacity utilization rate of 81.5%. AISI reported 5.8% jump in production over the previous year. The mill capability utilization rate too recorded notable jump. As per AISI data, the production had totaled only 44.288 million NT at a lower capability utilization rate of 76.7% during the corresponding year-to-date period in 2018.

The district-wise details indicate that Great Lakes region continued to remain as the largest producer. The regional output totaled 708,000 net tons, closely followed by Southern region with an output of 668,000 net tons. The production by other regions in thousands of net tons is as follows: North East (219), Midwest (205) and Western (73).
