U.S. Nickel Scrap Exports Surged 36%

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): According to statistics published by the U.S. Census Bureau, the country reported substantial surge in exports of nickel waste and scrap through the initial eleven months of 2018. The imports too skyrocketed by more than 57%, when compared with the corresponding eleven-month period from January to November in 2017.

The U.S. exports of nickel waste and scrap totaled $149.47 million through Nov ’18, significantly higher by 35.78% from the previous year. The exports had totaled only $110.08 million in Jan-Nov ’17.

The key destination market for U.S. nickel scrap exports was Canada. The country accounted for nearly 77% of the total U.S. exports during the initial eleven-month period. The imports by Canada surged higher significantly by almost 37% over the previous year to total $114.96 million. The exports to Japan skyrocketed by nearly 112% over the previous year to total $9.99 million. In third place was the UK with imports totaling $7.35 million. Australia ($5.02 million) and Sweden ($4.40 million) were the other major importers of nickel scrap from the U.S.

The U.S. imports of nickel waste and scrap too increased significantly by 57.37%. The imports totaled $297.63 million, as compared with $189.13 million during Jan-Nov ’17. The top five sources of import were the UK, Canada, Russia, China and Germany. More than 63% of the total U.S imports were from the above five foreign markets. The combined imports from these countries totaled $188.05 million of the total imports of $297.63 million.
