U.S. Exports of Nickel Scrap Recorded Notable Surge

Meantime, the country’s imports of nickel waste and scrap surged higher significantly by 73.24% to total $158.21 million through June this year.

U.S. Exports of Nickel Scrap Recorded Notable Surge

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The exports of nickel scrap by the U.S. strengthened during the initial half of 2018. The data published by the U.S. Census Bureau indicates notable surge in exports during the first six months of the current year. The exports through June 2018 were up considerably by 32.39% over the previous year to total $78.68 million. The country’s exports had totaled only $59.43 million during the corresponding six-month period in 2017. It must be noted that the full-year exports had totaled $121.13 million in 2017.

Canada continued to remain as the primary destination of U.S. exports of nickel waste and scrap. The exports to Canada totaled $61.64 million, accounting for 78% of the total U.S. exports. Year-on-year, the exports to Canada went higher by almost 40%. The second largest market of nickel scrap exports from the U.S. was Japan. The exports to that country more than doubled over the previous year to total $5.12 million. In third place was the U.K. with $4.39 million worth of imports. The other key foreign markets were Sweden ($2.40 million) and the Netherlands ($1.75 million).

Over 95% of all nickel waste and scrap exports from the U.S. were to the above top five foreign markets.

Meantime, the country’s imports of nickel waste and scrap surged higher significantly by 73.24% to total $158.21 million through June this year. This is upon comparison with the imports which had totaled only $91.32 million in Jan-June ’17.

The main source of import was the U.K, which supplied nearly one-fourth of all the scrap imported by the U.S. The imports from the U.K totaled $38.88 million. The other key suppliers were Russia ($19.75 million), Canada ($15.39 million), Germany ($14.62 million) and China ($13.02 million). These five countries together shipped $101.66 million, equivalent to 64.26% of all the U.S. imports.
