US Exports of Brass Mill Products Surged in August

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Copper and Brass Fabricators Council (CBFC) has published the latest monthly trade statistics of brass mill products. According to trade figures, exports of brass mill products by the US surged higher significantly during the month of August this year upon comparison with the previous year. The imports too reported substantial jump in volumes during the month. The country’s exports and imports have gained considerably during the initial eight-month period of 2017.

Imports-August ‘17

The US imported 42.495 million lb of brass mill products during the month of August this year. The imports grew modestly by 5.6% over the year. The country’s imports of brass mill products had totaled only 40.238 million lb during August last year.

The leading exporter of brass mill products to the US during the month was Germany. The US imported 10.077 million lb from that country. South Korea emerged as the second largest exporter of brass mill products to the US with exports totaling 4.192 million lb. The other key suppliers of brass mill products to the US were Mexico (3.894 million lb), Vietnam (3.074 million lb) and Canada (3.054 million lb).

The imports of all sheet, strip, plate and foil products by the US in August this year totaled 14.892 million lb. All pipe and tube products imports totaled 14.666 million lb. The imports of all profiles, rods and bars totaled 9.312 million lb. Also, imports of copper alloy wire by the US totaled 3.625 million lb.

Exports- August ‘17

The exports of brass mill products by the US totaled 22.833 million lb during August 2017. This is considerably higher by more than 9.4% when matched with the shipments during the same month a year before. It must be noted that the country’s brass mill products export had totaled only 20.864 million lb in August 2016.

The largest importer of US brass mill products during the month was Mexico. The exports to Mexico totaled 8.891 million lb. In second and third place were Canada (6.758 million lb) and South Korea (1.586 million lb). The other primary export destinations of US brass mill products were China (1.133 million lb) and Germany (505,114 lb).

Exports of all sheet, strip, plate and foil products totaled 9.366 million lb in August this year. All pipe and tube products exports totaled 4.072 million lb. Exports of all profiles, rods and bars totaled 7.285 million lb. Copper alloy wire exports totaled 2.110 million lb.

Imports and Exports- Jan-Aug ’17

The cumulative imports of brass mill products by the US during the initial eight months of the current year totaled 322.080 million lb, higher by 5.8% over the corresponding period last year. The country’s imports had totaled 313.802 million lb during the corresponding eight-month period in 2016.

The cumulative exports surged higher by nearly 11.6% from 160.524 million lb in Jan-Aug ’16 to 179.270 million lb through the opening eight months of 2017.
