SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The most recent trade statistics released by the U.S. Census Bureau indicates that exports of aluminum scrap recorded decline during the initial eleven months of 2019. The total exports were valued at $2.04 billion during this period, down by 9.19% when matched with the exports of $2.25 billion million during the similar eleven-month period in 2018.
The primary importer of aluminum scrap from the U.S. was China. The value of exports to China totalled $348.56 million, accounting for nearly 17% of the total U.S. exports. The Chinese imports from the U.S. dropped significantly by nearly 48% over the previous year. In second place was South Korea, whose imports from the U.S. were valued at $296.74 million. The third largest export destination was India, importing $291.52 million worth of aluminium scrap from the U.S. The other key importers were Malaysia ($266.21 million) and Mexico ($156.04 million).

The U.S. imported $738.16 million worth of aluminum scrap during Jan-Nov ’19. This compares with $1.02 billion during the corresponding year-ago period, thereby implying a year-on-year decline of nearly 28%. The top three import sources were Canada ($486.16 million), Mexico ($197.63 million) and Guatemala ($11.76 million).
