US and Mexico strike import deal with UAE-based Emirates Steel

NEW YORK (Scrap Monster) : The first-ever structural steel shipment from the UAE-based Emirates Steel has arrived at the US and Mexican ports. The ‘Made in UAE’ shipments arrived at the Houston, USA and Altamira, Mexico ports early this week. Until now, the UAE steel giant has been exporting their products only to GCC countries, Asia and Africa. The exports to the US and Mexico is part of Emirates Steel’s business strategy to penetrate into other global markets as well.

The company shipped nearly 13,000 tonnes of structural steel, satisfying the US and Mexican standards. The Houston-based Service Steel Warehouse Company who received the shipment stated that the products were found to meet the exact specifications. The imported steel would be mainly used in construction of commercial and residential building structures. Apart from that, the steel from UAE will also be used in oil rig and petrochemical projects.

Emirates Steel, wholly owned by SENAAT, is the UAE’s largest industrial conglomerate and a driving force for implementing the Abu Dhabi government’s industrial diversification policy. Strategically located in the Industrial City of Abu Dhabi, in Musaffah, Emirates Steel is the only integrated steel plant in the UAE, utilizing the latest technology to produce high quality rebar, wire rod and heavy sections. In 2012, the Company achieved a capacity of 3.5 million MTPA, following two expansions and an investment of AED 10 billion (US$ 2.72 billion).
