Unesda Unfolds New Vision for Circular Packaging

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Unesda Soft Drinks Europe- the Brussels-based soft drink association aims to make EU beverage packaging 100% circular by 2030. In its newly published vision document, it outlines the steps to be followed by the European beverage industry to reach the above said goal.

In accordance with Circular Packaging Vision 2030, the association targets 90% collection of all packaging for recycling. In addition PET bottles must be made from 100% recycled or renewable material. Also, it envisages reduced packaging footprint and increased use of refillable packaging. It also commits to certain intermediary goals such as by 2025, its packaging must be 100% recyclable and its PET bottles will have average 50% recycled content.

Commenting on the vision, Ian Ellington, President, Unesda stated that the ultimate aim of the association is to help the region’s beverage packaging sector achieve full circularity and thereby support the EC’s commitment to accelerate the transition towards a green economy.

Meantime, Unesda Soft Drinks Europe urged consistent support from EU authorities and national governments in attaining its goals.
