UK Generated Second Largest E-Waste Volume in Europe

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The data from the Global E-Waste Statistics Partnership indicates that UK households are the second largest generators of electronic waste in the European region. Incidentally, Norway emerged as the leader in per-person e-waste generation. The report findings are based on data available from as many as 39 countries in the region.

The statistics from the United Nations suggests that approximately 53.6 million tonnes of electronic waste were generated across the globe in 2019. The Norwegians generated around 57 kilograms per household of electronic waste during the year. In second place were the UK households, whose households created 55 kilograms of e-waste. The other key e-waste generating countries were Ireland, Switzerland and Spain.

On the bottom end of the scale was Moldova, whose per person e-waste creation stood as low as 11.6 kilograms.

The recent survey conducted by Clearitwaste.co.uk revealed that nearly 16% were not even aware of what e-waste is. Only 36% were found confident in disposing of their old electronics. Also, 87% recommended that the authorities need to educate residents on the environmental impacts of carelessly discarded electronic devices.
