Two Flyers Held with Rs. 2.3 Crore Gold Paste

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Directorate Revenue of Intelligence (DRI) on Tuesday arrested two Karnataka natives for allegedly smuggling 3.5kg gold in paste form worth nearly Rs 2.3 crore from Dubai to India.

Based on specific information, the DRI Mumbai zonal unit intercepted Saud Rahman Kurukar (25) and his relative Jamal Mulla (58), both Bhatkal residents, after they landed at the city airport around 2.30pm. Their baggage check resulted in recovery of the gold paste in plastic pouches.

"The two accused have spilled the beans on the syndicate that lured them with monetary consideration and a free trip to Dubai for carrying the contraband. They were assured that they would not be caught," said an official.

The duo has been booked under the relevant sections of the Customs Act.
