Two Arrested for Illegally Transporting Lumber with Fake Licenses

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Two suspects who were transporting a stock of milla and teak wood worth around Rs. 3 million using fake licenses were arrested with the timber truck on the night of the 31st December, the Ingiriya Range Forest Office said.

About 1200 pieces of milla and teak wood cut into various sizes illegally cut from Ampara and Samanthurai areas have been seized. It is estimated that the gross value of this timber stock exceeds Rs. 3 million, said the forest officials.

Range Forest Officer Lakshman Ratnaweera said that the suspects were arrested along with the wood that was being transported following a raid conducted on information received at the Ingiriya Range Forest Officer’s office.

The two suspects, aged 38 and 43, who are residents of Bandarawela area, have been arrested along with the stock of lumber and forged licenses.

Arrangements have been made to produce the two suspects before the Horana Magistrate’s Court.
