Turkish stainless steel flat imports soared 40% in Jan: TUIK

ANKARA (Scrap Monster): The imports of stainless steel flat products by Turkey jumped significantly higher during the month of January. According to recent data released by Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), the country’s imports during January this year totaled 40,812 tons. The imports climbed higher by 39.63% upon comparison with the imports during the same month a year ago. However, the imports fell 8.14% when compared with the previous month.

The import revenues generated by stainless steel flat products totaled $86.91 million in January. The revenues jumped by 18.61% year-on-year. However, the import revenues saw a fall of 8.83% over the previous month.

The largest exporter of stainless steel flat products to Turkey during the month of January was South Korea. The South Korean exports of stainless steel flats totaled 11,187 tons. The imports from South Korea soared nearly 600% when compared with the import figures of January 2013.

The second largest source of Turkish steel flat product imports was Italy. The total imports from Italy amounted to 8,139 tons. The Italian exports to Turkey increased by 370% over the year. In third place was Taiwan, The total imports from Taiwan witnessed a fall of 21% when compared with the import figures during January 2013. The Turkish imports of stainless steel flat products from Taiwan during the month of January 2014 totaled 5,823 tons.
