Turkish billet and bloom imports dropped sharply in Oct '14

ANKARA (Scrap Monster) : According to the most recent statistics released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), the country’s steel billet and bloom imports during the month of October this year plunged by 35% over the previous month. However, the imports surged when compared with a year ago.

As per TUIK, the total steel billet and bloom imports by Turkey during October ‘14 amounted to 168,973 tons, which is 34.7% lower when compared to the imports during the previous month. The country’s imports of steel billet and bloom had totaled 258,764 tons during September this year. Upon comparison with October 2013, imports during same month this year were 20.4% higher. The country’s imports had totaled 140,343 tons during October last year.

The total value of steel billet and bloom imports amounted to $94.07 million during the month, recording a growth of 19.2% over the previous year. The value of imports has dropped by 33.46% when compared with the previous month.

During the initial ten-month period of the year, Turkey’s steel billet and bloom imports totaled 2.41 million tons, dropping marginally by 0.51% over the corresponding ten-month period last year. The cumulative import revenues during Jan-Oct ’14 too have dropped by 3.2% year-on-year to $1.3 billion.
