Turkey Launched Gigantic Paper Production Facility, Aimed at Cutting Imports

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Turkey announced opening of major paper production facility, aimed at reducing the country’s dependence on imports of the materials. Furthermore, it will help to boost the Turkish foreign sales. Incidentally, Turkey imports $250 million worth of paper every year.

The Batı Kipaş Paper Mill is being built in the western province of Aydın. It is considered as the biggest production facility for kraft liner, angular white test liner and white kraft liner papers in Turkey. The opening ceremony was attended among others by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

The mill will be constructed in two phases. The projected investment for the first phase is approximately $550 million. This phase will provide employment to 800 people. The second phase of the factory comprises a closed area of 200,000 square metres and is expected to be completed before end-2022, at an investment of $450 million.

Upon completion of the project, the facility will provide additional employment for around 600 people.

The facility will help in narrowing the current account deficit by around $450 million. It will prevent 12 million trees from being cut down per year in the first stage and 21 million trees in the second stage.
