Trade Bodies Call For Urgent Passage of the USMCA by Congress

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): In separate statements issued yesterday, the Consumer Technology Association and the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) have urged the U.S. Congress to pass the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). This follows the announcement that the Trump administration and House Democrats have reached a deal on revised trade agreement.

Thomas J. Gibson, in a statement, noted that the steel industry welcomes the agreement that will pave way for a congressional vote on the USMCA. He urged the Congress to pass the new trade agreement before the end of 2019. The USMCA is critical towards strengthening the steel industry’s competitiveness, he added.

The statement issued by Gary Shapiro, President and CEO, CTA said that the association is encouraged to see a deal between the White House and Congress. He urged the Congress to ratify the agreement by the end of the year. The delay in ratifying the new agreement would make global competitors stronger, he added.
