SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Chemistry Industry Association of Canada (CIAC) has highlighted the need to secure investments in advanced recycling techniques as well as new technologies to extract value from discarded plastic items. The industry body was responding to the recent Speech from the Throne and the subsequent address to the nation by the Canadian Prime Minister.
According to CIAC, the speech reiterated the government’s plan to ban the use of single use plastics, which it believes, is nothing but a step backwards in its fight against plastic waste. Instead, the government should seek ways to enhance recycling and repurposing of plastics by way of active participation by all the provinces. The industry and the government should collaborate in exploring smart solutions to address plastic waste. This will generate thousands of jobs, thereby boosting economic prosperity.

The chemistry industry extended support to the federal government’s efforts to achieve the goal of net-zero emissions by 2050.
