Trade Association Applauds Anti-Dumping Margin on Chinese Aluminum Sheet Imports

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Aluminum Association has applauded the preliminary findings by the US Department of Commerce (DOC) that common alloy aluminum sheets are being dumped by China at less than fair value. The US DOC had announced its decision yesterday. Consequently, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will be informed to collect anti-dumping deposit from importers of common alloy aluminum sheet from China at the time of import.

Heidi Brock, President and CEO, the Aluminum Association, in a statement issued yesterday, noted that the association and its member companies are extremely pleased with the DOC finding. Further, it underscores DOC’s ongoing commitment to counter unfair trade, he said. The illegal and unfair subsidization of its aluminum industry by the Chinese administration has resulted in massive market overcapacity. The DOC determination will likely result in creation of level-playing field, Brock added.

The Commerce Department has calculated an antidumping margin of 167.16% for Henan Mingtai Al Industrial Co., Ltd. and its subsidiaries, which the Department had selected for mandatory investigation. The same calculations were applied on the other two companies- Nanjie Resources Co., Ltd. and Zhejiang GKO Aluminum Stock Co., Ltd., who were also selected for mandatory investigation and also to other companies that cooperated with the investigation. Finally, the Department established an antidumping margin of 167.16% for those producers and exporters who did not participate in the investigation.

The findings follow the antidumping and countervailing duty investigations initiated in November last year. The final determinations are expected to be announced during late October or early November this year.
