SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Hecla Mining- the largest silver producer in the U.S. looks forward to expand its operations into Latin American countries, after consolidating its footholds in Canada. As per plans, the Idaho-based miner targets expansion into countries including Mexico and Peru.
Hecla Mining had acquired Alexco Resources in 2022, thus becoming a major player in the Keno Hill Silver District, Yukon Territory, which is regarded as one of the world’s highest-grade silver regions. Despite several challenges, the miner clocked a strong production of 1.5 million ounces of silver in 2023. The Q4 2023 production had totalled 608,301 ounces. Also, the Bermingham deposits delivered its highest production in December 2023.
The consistent growth of Yukon operations is expected to make Hecla the country’s largest silver producer.
According to company executive, it is actively pursuing expansion opportunities in various Latin American jurisdictions such as Mexico, Peru, Bolivia and Argentina. Alongside, the miner aims to maximize value from its four operating mines and ten exploration projects. Incidentally, Hecla targets to achieve a production of up to 20 million ounces of silver by end-2025.
