SEATTLE (Waste Advantage): The county legislature approved a measure that would get rid of recycling fees along with county taxes. The new Tioga County Mandatory Source Separation Law will go into effect on January first of next year.
The county legislature held a meeting on September 23rd to discuss the law with the public. According to the county legislature, under the new law, your trash hauler will have to pick up your recyclable items with your garbage and bring them to a recycling facility. The county warns people should expect a service charge. This would replace the current recycling tax residents find on their bill.
People also have the option to take their garbage to a transfer station themselves. They should also expect to be charged for garbage disposal. More information on the law is expected to be released at a later date.
