SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Sun Paper announced that it has started a new packaging production line in Laos project. The PM2 commenced operations 18 days ahead of schedule. This is the company’s second paper machine outside of China and is the 6th paper machine that has been supplied to the company by Voith. The company has achieved significant expansion of its operations by starting operations of PM1 and PM2 within a period of just one month.
Commenting on the development, Aimin Zhang, Project Director-Laos, Sun Paper noted that the experience of starting up of PM 1 helped the Voith and Sun Paper teams to optimize the second machine.

The company press release noted that PM1, with right-hand machine direction, produces paper with basis weights of 140-250g/m2.The capacity is projected at 520,000 tons per annum. Meantime, the PM2 is a left-handed machine capable of producing low-weight products in the range of 100-160g/m2 at an estimated annual capacity of 480,000 tons. Both the machines are installed in the same workshop.
The functioning of both the machines is expected to boost the proportion of high-quality packaging paper and further strengthen the company’s cost-competitiveness.
