As per the statistics released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), the raw steel production in the country has gone down by 0.2% during the week ending May 11th.
NEW YORK (Scrap Monster) : As per the statistics released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), the raw steel production in the country has gone down by 0.2% during the week ending May 11th.
The total raw steel output during the week was 1,881,000 net tons. The AISI data indicates that the US raw steel production has fallen by 0.2% in the week ended May 11th. This is in comparison with the previous week (ie., the week ended May 4th ) production figures of 1,864,000 net tons. However, the weekly output has declined by 4.5% in comparison with same week the previous year. The total production during the same period last year was 1,970,000 net tons.
The raw steel production had risen by 1% week-on-week during the previous week ( ie., the week ended May 4th ), risen by 0.4% week-on-week during the previous week ( ie., the week ended April 27th ) and fallen by 1.2% week-on-week during the previous week ( ie., the week ended April 20th ).
The capacity utilization rate of US steel makers was 78.5% during the week ended May 11th.
The capacity utilization has dropped slightly when compared to 78.6% during the previous week ( ie., the week ended May 4th ). The capacity utilization during the week ended April 27th was 77.9% and that during the week ended April 20th was 77.6%.
Also, the capacity utilization is lower when compared to that of same week a year ago. The capacity utilization of US steel mills a year ago for the same period was 79.2%.
