TOKYO (Scrap Monster): Japan's crude steel demand may be seen to decline by 0.2% year-on-year in the fourth quarter due to the drop in car production after the end of government subsidies, according to the trade ministry.
Demand for exports is also expected to be slow due to the weak global economy and steel oversupply in Asian market.
The estimation demand for Japan's crude steel will be about 26.54 million tons in the fourth quarter. And the steel production will also drop by 3.6% from a quarter ago.
Meanwhile, the exports will be down by 7.2% from 6.9 million tons from the third quarter as well.
The domestic demand for carbon steel is expected to be 18.63 million tons, down by 3.3% quarter-on-quarter since the demand from auto-making sector dropped by 8.9% to 2.8 million tons in the fourth quarter.
