TOKYO (Scrap Monster) : The data released by the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF) suggests that the steel exports from the country have risen during the month of March this year.
The total exports of steel by the country during the month of March were 4,076,000 tonnes. The export during the month is 4.7% higher when compared to March 2012 and 12.2% higher in comparison with the previous year.
The total value of exports was $3.981 billion which is lower by nearly 13.5% year-on-year and higher by 15.9% from the previous month.
The items which saw a huge volume in exports in comparison with same month the previous year were steel bars up by 30.2%, HR steel coils up by 16.8% and welded/forged steel pipes/tubes up by 14.9%. Among the items that saw fall in export volume were electrical steel sheet/coil down by 9.9% and galvanized steel sheet/coil down by 3.7%.
The following items witnessed robust export demand during March in comparison with the previous month-welded/forged pipes/tubes up by 43.2%, plates up by 41.7% and seamless pipes/tubes up by 28.4%.
The biggest export destination of Japanese steel remained to be Korea, followed by China, Thailand, Taiwan and the US.
