Sonoco Appointed Lead Independent Director to its Board

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Sonoco announced that it has elected Robert R. Hill, Jr. as the Lead Independent Director of its Board of Directors. He succeeds James M. Micali who is due to retire after 19 years of service.

Presently, Hill is the Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors of SouthState Corporation- a Winter Haven, Florida-headquartered financial services company. He has worked with the company for over 27 years, serving various positions with the company. He has been the Chief Executive Officer since 2004.

In addition to serving as Lead Independent Director, he will chair the Company’s Governance Committee and will continue to serve on the Board’s Financial Policy and Executive Compensation committees. He earned a degree in Business Administration and an MBA from the University of South Carolina Moore School of Business. 

John Haley, Chairman of the Board of Directors said that the company is pleased to have Robert stepping into the Lead Independent Director’s role. He brings a strong background in banking and finance, he added. Moreover, he thanked Micali for his tireless work as our Lead Independent Director over the past decade as well as his dedication to Sonoco and the Board since 2003.
