Softwood Lumber Prices Recorded Stability

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The latest weekly newsletter Madison’s Lumber Reporter noted that softwood lumber prices witnessed much-awaited stability during the week ended March 18th, 2022.

The ongoing shipping delays resulted in frustratingly slow deliveries. The inventories continued to decline during the week. The fact that sawmills was able to keep strong order files for up to four weeks, resulted in flat prices for the material. The lack of rail cars led to choked lumber yards.

According to Madison’s Lumber Reporter, price of benchmark softwood lumber item Western Spruce-Pine-Fir 2×4 #2&Btr KD remained flat at $1,400 mfbm, compared with the previous week. The prices were up significantly by 9%, when compared with $1,283 mfbm during a month before.

The Western S-P-F market continued to be dominated by confusion and uncertainty. However, the demand and sales activity remained less frantic. The price spreads between large producers and smaller mills as well as among wholesalers and distributors varied noticeably.

Also, Western Spruce-Pine-Fir studs witnessed even demand, although the upward momentum in pricing tapered off. Stud mills were reportedly processing early-to-mid April order files, on account of clearing delays due to ongoing transportation issues.
