Smurfit Kappa Highlights Benefits of Paper Bags over Non-Recyclable Alternatives

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Smurfit Kappa joined the second annual European Paper Bag day celebrations, which took place on 18th October. The European packaging major organized various campaigns to highlight the importance and benefits of paper carrier bags over non-recyclable alternatives.

According to the company, its paper packaging portfolio produces high quality products, which has been receiving overwhelmingly positive response from shoppers across the world. The demand for paper bags has shown steady growth over the past few years. The company’s Sangüesa and Nervion Paper Mills in Spain continue to be the primary producer of various types of bags including supermarket carrier bags and clothing boutique bags. More and more shops across the Europe are switching to paper bags as an alternative to single-use plastic bags, which are due to be banned by 2021.

Laurent Sellier, COO of Smurfit Kappa Paper Europe noted that the company is extremely delighted to support European Paper Bag Day. It will continue to explore ways in which paper can be used as a sustainable alternative to less recyclable materials. The 100% recyclability, biodegradability and renewability makes paper a viable option for many products, Sellier added.

The European Paper Day, launched by ‘The Paper Bag’ platform in 2018, aims to raise consumer awareness about paper carrier bags and their contribution to fighting climate change and environmental pollution.
