SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): A recent survey conducted by Nanos Research revealed overwhelming support among Canadians to banning single-use plastics. In addition to extending their support in implementing a total ban on single-use plastics, they also expressed their willingness to pay small premium for environmentally sustainable alternate products.
According to the survey, 56% of Canadians supported a total ban, whereas 25% were found to somewhat support a ban. Only 10% of the Canadians somewhat opposed a total ban. Meantime, 8% opposed the ban and the remaining 1% stated that they are quite unsure as to whether to impose a ban or not.
The biggest support for the ban came from British Columbia residents. 65% of the B.C. residents were in favour of the ban. On the other hand, the lowest support of 47% came from the residents of Prairie Provinces, namely Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. Among other regions, 59% residents of Atlantic Provinces supported the ban. The support from Quebec and Ontario provinces stood at 60% and 54% respectively.

The Nanos Poll also indicated that 31% of the Canadians are willing to pay 5 cents more for environment-friendly alternative products. 21% are willing to pay 2 cents more, whereas 19% expressed that they are willing to pay 1 cent more. Meanwhile, one out of four Canadians surveyed are unwilling to pay more, the survey said.
The above findings are based on an online survey, commissioned by the Canadian newspaper The Globe and Mail, was conducted among 1,000 Canadians, who were recruited by live agents, by phone.
