SERI Launches Revised R2 Electronics Recycling Certification

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster):  Hastings, Minnesota- based Sustainable Electronics Recycling International (SERI) announced launch of R2v3- the latest R2 certification standard for electronics reuse and recycling. It must be noted that the final version is being released after incorporating changes to second draft, which was published in mid-January this year.

The new standard, which SERI claims to be the most widely adopted global electronics standard, has been made available for download effective 1st July, 2020. It reflects the changes in the electronics landscape, customer demands, and the regulatory environment. It is more powerful and at the same time easier to adopt. It retains much of the R2 standard. Additionally, it proposes stricter requirements with increased emphasis on reuse and data protection.

All facilities would be given sufficient time to update their operations to conform to the new requirements. No facility will be required to transition to the R2v3 standard for at least 1.5 years.

Corey Dehmey, executive director of SERI said that the new certification standard provides new benchmark for accountability, thereby increasing the trust and confidence in electronics refubishers and recyclers.
