Scrap Material Accounted for 40% of Constellium's Feedstock

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Leading aluminum manufacturer Constellium released its 2020 Business and Sustainability Report that outlines the significant progress made by the company on its earlier stated sustainability goals.

According to the report, scrap material accounted for approximately 40% of the feedstock consumed by its manufacturing process. Out of this, 18% accounted for post-consumer scrap and the remaining 22% was pre-consumer scrap generated by its downstream manufacturers. It must be noted that recycled content accounted for 38% of Constellium’s feedstock in 2019, out of which 18% post-consumer and 20% pre-consumer scrap.

As per the report, the recordable case rate decreased from 3.31 in 2016 to 1.82 in 2020. This is significantly lower than the industry average and much lower than its 2020 target of 2.35. The company’s GHG emission intensity continued to decrease in 2020, despite a decline in energy efficiency. It is on track to achieve its 2025 goals to cut GHG emissions by 25%, in comparison with 2015.

Jean-Marc Germain, CEO of Constellium noted that the company is proud of its significant progress in 2020 despite the challenging environment of the COVID-19 crisis. Sustainability will continue to be at the core of its business in future as well, he added.
