OTTAWA (Scrap Monster) : The Canadian government has announced financial aid in support of Quebec Forestry Industry. The government announced Wednesday its decision to grant approximately $4.75 million to two forest industry organizations.

The announcement was made by Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec and Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs. The two organizations to receive the financial aid are FPInnovations and the Quebec Wood Export Bureau.

The non-repayable contributions have been granted under Canada Economic Development’s Quebec Economic Development Program. Under this scheme, FPInnovations will receive a sum of $ 3,759,920 whereas Quebec Wood Export Bureau (QWEB) will receive $1,000,000.

FPInnovations is a Canadian non-profit member organization which carries out scientific research and technology transfer for the Canadian forest industry, based on priorities set by the company's members. The company's headquarters are located in Pointe-Claire Quebec, and has its main research centers located in Vancouver BC, Québec City, and Pointe-Claire, but also has many regional offices located throughout the country.

FPInnovations will utilize the funds to procure cutting-edge equipment and to design innovative products. The company plans to step up the research and development activities to contribute to the benefit of small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs) operating in the region. A major share of the funds will be utilized towards revival of the Quebec Forestry Industry.

The Quebec Wood Export Bureau (QWEB) is a non-profit organization showcasing wood products from Quebec in export markets. It represents more than 200 manufacturers in different sectors and provides direct access to Quebec's vast array of wood products.

The QWEB will mainly utilize the funds in participating and organizing trade fairs and exhibitions. A pert of the contribution would also be used towards retaining its employees.
