Resolute Announces $52M Investment to Upgrade Quebec Pulp Mill

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Resolute Forest Products, Inc. has announced strategic investment plan for its Quebec area pulp mill. The company press conference stated that the company plans to make an investment of $52.3 million at its Saint-Félicien, Quebec pulp mill. The press conference was attended by Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard along with other invited dignitaries and top company executives.

The announced investments at the facility are expected to deliver significant improvement in operational capabilities. In addition, Resolute targets to deliver notable savings in energy costs. The improvements in various operational modules are likely to boost average daily production capacity at the mill by 76 metric tons. Further, the investment is expected to result in 20% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from the use of fossil fuels, said Yves Laflamme, president and chief executive officer.

Resolute’s management team thanked local government officials, regional academic and economic development organizations and its employees for their continued support to its operations in the Lac-Saint-Jean region. According to estimates, the upgrade works are expected to get completed by end of next year. The mill which employs 236 people has an annual production capacity of 340,000 metric tons of Northern bleached softwood kraft pulp (NBSK). The facility has been a winner of Resolute Board of Directors Safety Award for the past five years in a row for reporting significant number of hours without a recordable injury.

Earlier during this month, Resolute had announced investment of $12.957 million in its La Doré wood products facilities, located in the Lac-Saint-Jean region of Quebec, aimed at modernizing the mill operations and improving energy efficiency.
