SEATTLE (Waste 360): A Melbourne, Australia, warehouse has been left with roughly 150 tonnes of plastic materials after recycler OzShred was forced to leave the property for failing to pay two months’ worth of rent.

The latest news, which comes on the heels of the collapse of SKM Recycling, has prompted calls for more stringent regulation to track the movement of waste, ABC News Australia reports. In July, SKM announced it was in financial crisis and could no longer collect materials from 30 area councils.

Now, area waste management experts are calling for the recycling industry to adopt a similar system that’s used to manage the transport of hazardous waste, where permits and licenses are used to create a paper trail, according to the report.
