Quaker Valley, PA Council of Governments Launches New Drop-Off Yard Waste Program with Reserve Twp. Company

SEATTLE (Waste Advantage): The Quaker Valley Council of Governments is looking to build off its recycling program with a new drop-off yard waste program. It has partnered with Michael Brothers Hauling to allow residents of member communities to dispose of grass clippings, leaves, brush, wood chips, concrete chunks, dirt and small logs at the company’s facility at 408 Hoffman Road, Reserve Township. The pilot program is expected to last six months.

Stumps, food items and pumpkins will not be accepted. Christmas trees will be accepted only if all decorations are removed prior to disposal. “The glass and yard waste programs provide our organization with an opportunity to fill in service gaps for our member communities and their residents,” said Quaker Valley COG executive director Patrick Conners. “Our board has committed to fund the program through the QVCOG’s Joint Recycling Fund for at least a six-month period to evaluate whether it is successful or not.

“The six-month time frame will also allow Michael Brothers to evaluate the program to ensure that it is working as they anticipate. Both parties hope to learn a lot during this trial period. If successful, it is anticipated that a self-sustaining funding model will be established, similar to our glass recycling program.”
