Pyramid Mountain Lumber Goes Up in Flames During Demolition

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): During demolition of Pyramid Mountain Lumber's buildings in Missoula County, Montana, two structures caught fire in the early morning hours of June 3.

The lumber site announced in March 2024 to permanently close the mill and auction its equipment. The workers fed the last logs through the mill on July 2, 2024.

The company's board of directors closed the mill due to a financial crisis that has made it harder to operate, including labor shortages, rising costs, and falling lumber prices. According to a report by KPAX, a Missoula County news channel, contractors bought the property at auction a few weeks ago and began demolishing the buildings the morning of the fire.

Seeley Lake firefighters let the structures burn through before addressing any remaining spot fires, since the structures were being demolished in the first place. No injuries have been reported.
