P&G Commits to 100% Recyclable Packaging by 2030

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The American multi-national consumer goods corporation, Procter & Gamble has announced its commitment to make all of its packaging fully recyclable or reusable by 2030. This is part of company’s new broad-reaching sustainability goals outlined in the recently released “Ambition 2030” vision document.

According to “Ambition 2030”, the company’s leading brands will enable and inspire responsible consumption by offering packaging that is 100% recyclable or reusable. To achieve this goal, the company intends to launch more sustainable innovations. The company has already drafted a set of criteria to assess all its brands against the goal, which will be finalized by July this year. The progress will be reported annually beginning 2019, by tracking the percentage of packaging that is reusable ore recyclable. P&G noted that it has made significant progress against its existing 2020 packaging stewardship target.

P&G aims to have its manufacturing sites cut greenhouse gas emissions in half. In fact, P&G’s efforts on energy conservation since 2010 have resulted in hundreds of millions of dollars in cost savings. Furthermore, the company will purchase enough renewable electricity to power 100% of its plants.  P&G will report the percentage of purchased electricity coming from renewable sources, on an annual basis. Also, the company will source at least 5 billion liters of water from circular sources. Consequently, it intends to deliver 35% increase in water efficiency across its sites. It must be noted that the company has already achieved its 2020 goal of increasing water efficiency by 20%.

“Ambition 2030” proposes to advance solutions to help stem the flow of plastics into world’s oceans, by collaborating with other stakeholders. The company is already supporting the efforts of Trash Free Seas Alliance-an agency that works towards this cause in Southeast Asia.

Further, the company targets to implement efficient recycling of absorbent hygiene product waste in at least 10 cities by 2030.
