SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The leading social enterprise Plastic Bank announced that it has reached a new milestone by preventing 1 billion plastic bottles from entering oceans. The partnership with consumer brands major SC Johnson accounted for almost 50% of the above achievement. Incidentally, the collected volume equates to approximately 44 million lb of plastic, which would otherwise have polluted the world’s oceans.
The partnership has created meaningful impact for both people and the environment. To date, it has launched around 250 collection points across Indonesia, the Philippines and Brazil. Furthermore, the partnership aims to expand further into other countries such as Thailand and Vietnam.

Also, the partnership has provided employment and additional income opportunities for over 15,000 people. It pays premiums to the collectors in return for the collected plastic. The collected plastics are processed into materials that are reintroduced into the manufacturing supply chain, which in turn will be used in the creation of fresh products and packaging materials.
SC Johnson targets to collect more than 1.5 billion plastic bottles through the partnership by 2022.
