Lincoln residents recycled more than 45,000 telephone directories during this year's third annual Think Yellow, Go Green Recycling Program
LINCOLN, NE (Scrap Monster): Lincoln residents recycled more than 45,000 telephone directories during this year's third annual Think Yellow, Go Green Recycling Program.
The Berry Company and the Cornhusker Council teamed up to recycle outdated telephone directories in an effort to improve the local environment. This is the equivalent of approximately 157,500 pounds, or nearly 79 tons, of recycled telephone directories.
"We are thrilled to celebrate another impressive recycling effort by the Boy Scouts and the residents of Lincoln," said Jason Klare, regional director of client services for Berry. "The Berry Company is proud to work with a community that goes the extra mile."
The recycling program was supported by The Berry Company, the Boy Scouts of America's Cornhusker Council and Recycling Enterprises of Nebraska, who provided recycling containers and hauling services. The recycled telephone directories from the Think Yellow, Go Green Recycling Program will be converted into material such as home insulation and grass seed that will be used locally.
"The community support for the Think Yellow, Go Green Recycling Program is what makes it so successful," said Chris Zegar, owner of Recycling Enterprises of Nebraska. "Without the Scouts and local residents, this campaign couldn't have generated the high volume of recycled telephone directories that it has over the last three years."
"The troops were eager to get back out there this year and help collect outdated telephone directories in their community," said Jason Anderson, Cornhusker Council assistant scout executive. "The Boy Scouts take pride in helping to increase the number of recycled directories from the year before."
To reward their hard work, Berry has donated gift cards and two scholarships to be raffled off to troop members. The scholarships will allow two troop members to attend Cup Scout Day Camp. One individual will win a $150 gift card to Cabela's and a $500 Cabela's gift card will be awarded to one lucky Cornhusker Council troop.
